TinyMCE: HugeWTF
Saturday, July 12th, 2008So, I’ve spent the past two hours trying to install a plugin for TinyMCE. Is it really as hard as I think it is? Putting the plugin into the right folder obviously isn’t enough. You’ve got to copy around and rename some Javascript file which is fine by me. But then there’s the elusive TinyMCE.init section that needs to be edited. To my joy, there is no information in the plugin readme as to where this might be. After searching what seems to be every single file in my TinyMCE directory, I’m still none the wiser. Even a Google search didn’t get me anywhere. Sure, there are lots of people asking the same questions I am, but usually they get responses like “dude, read the manual!”.
Problem is that the manual, although it often references the TinyMCE.init section, does not ever seem to make any indication as to where one might find it. Sure, by now I know how to add my plugin there, but I still don’t have the faintest clue where it is.
Why can’t TinyMCE autoload plugins, just like any other program can? Why does it send people on a quest to find an elusive configuration section in an unspecified file? What the fuck?
